We are inspired by the amazing community that came together to participate in and support SALEF’s mission at Echo Park Rising. Our booth beside the stage gave us a front row seat to the excitement and energy of the event, which was held next to the historic Echo Park Lake on Friday.

Acclaimed, local muralist Levi Ponce painted a beautiful piece of art throughout the evening at our booth, while SALEF staff met with members of the community. We will auction this and other works of art that speak to the lived experiences of immigrant communities at our 23rd Anniversary gala, Families Belong Together, Defend the Future of Our Children, in October.

Longtime SALEF supporter, Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell also joined us for the evening. We are grateful for his sponsorship of this event and everything he has done to support our work.

SALEF staff met many members of the community throughout the evening to share information about our scholarships, youth internships, immigration workshops, and our ongoing efforts to Defend the Children by providing free legal counsel to unaccompanied minors at the border.

If you would like to support our work, please donate directly to our Defend the Children campaign on Crowdrise.

Echo Park Rising will continue at venues in LA throughout the weekend. We look forward to participating in next year’s event to celebrate the diversity, creativity and sense of community in this neighborhood.
